科学新发现 美国森林发现奇异巨型病毒 似外星生命

最新发表在《bioRxiv》的预印研究报告称,德国马克斯·普朗克研究所(Max Planck
Institutes)的科学家,在美国麻萨诸塞州森林的土壤中发现一组看起来像外星生命形式。但地球上从未见过的巨型病毒。
英国《每日邮报》报导,这组病毒的特徵前所未见:有的具有触手和星状外壳,像海龟;有的形状像20面体骰子;还有的四面八方均有触手,就像希腊神话中的蛇髮女妖“戈尔贡”(Gorgon)3姊妹。
以COVID-19病毒宽度介于50~140奈米比较,这组巨型病毒宽度可达635奈米。科学家发现这些巨型病毒形状比一般病毒更奇怪,比如外壳有许多管状物、从未见过的多层内部结构等,表面几乎都覆盖著类似头髮的突起,长度、厚度、密度、形状都不相同。
研究表明,巨型病毒具有複杂的基因组,可携带多达250万个DNA硷基对,存在于海洋、北极湖泊和融化的永久冻土中。巨型病毒尚未被证明对人类构成威胁,但表明病毒发挥的生态作用被严重低估了。
主持研究的微生物学家费雪( Matthias Fischer)
表示,这项研究揭开土壤病毒的複杂外貌,显然巨型病毒相当多样化,且拥有难以想像的颗粒结构,其起源与功能还有待研究。
